Leslie-Lohman Museum Acquires “Another Poem” by Llanor Alleyne

I'm pleased to announce that my mixed media collage, Another Poem, has been acquired by the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art in New York for their permanent collection. This significant acquisition comes after Another Poem was featured in the museum’s 2024 exhibition, The Plural of He, curated by Dr. Andil Gosine, and dedicated to the influential Trinidadian poet, critic, and social justice advocate, Colin Robinson.

Measuring 44 x 30 inches, Another Poem explores Robinson’s multidimensional legacy—particularly his impact on HIV/AIDS awareness, LGBTQ+ activism, and the Caribbean diaspora experience in New York. I created this piece during my residency at Leslie-Lohman Museum, an experience that deepened my engagement with Robinson’s powerful poetry and activism. Robinson’s concise yet poignant poem, “HIV_FREE@50,” profoundly shaped the emotional narrative of the artwork, resonating through layered textures, colors, and figurative symbolism.

Curator Andil Gosine shared reflections on the acquisition:

“Llanor was the first artist I commissioned for the exhibition because her work is so beautifully composed, subtle and understated in its intentions, yet inviting to audiences to find her story—and theirs. That Another Poem emerged from her personal connections to Colin's poetry, activism, and Trinidadian roots made it particularly significant for Leslie-Lohman Museum’s permanent collection. It’s a work that encapsulates Colin's lasting significance and represents an important milestone in Llanor’s artistic journey, marking a stage of development that promises even greater things to come.”

My artistic practice, deeply rooted in collage as "world building," supports ongoing exploration of identity as a beauty politic. Exhibitions such as my 2017 showcase at PRIZM’s Universal Belonging exhibition during Art Basel and inclusion in the forthcoming Nature’s Wild exhibition underscore my commitment to amplifying Black, Caribbean, and queer narratives through mixed media art.

I'm grateful to Leslie-Lohman Museum for recognizing the deeper narrative woven through Another Poem. It’s an honor to have my work preserved within a museum committed to reflecting the rich diversity of LGBTQ+ histories and identities.

Special thanks to Andil Gosine and Charmaine Robinson, Colin's sister, for facilitating this meaningful placement.
